Trabzonspor Notches Fifth Straight Win

Trabzonspor continues its hot run after coming up with a 2-0 clean sheet win against Genclerbirligi. The team has won its last five matches to move to the second spot of the Super Lig table and needs another win to take over the top.

Trabzon used a late rally to close the game after Jose Sosa drained a penalty goal in the 79th minute of the match. The team has been on a tear since losing to Denizlispor back in December 2019 in a 2-1 defeat.

The club is clearly making a strong case for the Super Lig title as they opened up the second half of the season without losing a single game. Trabzon and Galatasaray are the only teams in the top 10 to win five straight matches since starting the second half of the season.

The team came off a 2-1 win over Fenerbahce last week after stealing a win at the Senol Gunes Stadium. They rallied back in the first half after being down 1-0 to turn it into a 2-1 win.

Alexander Sorloth was sensational in their win over Fenerbahce. The 24-year-old was recently acquired from Crystal Palace and proved to be an impressive addition to the team as he scored a goal in the 15th minute to help Trabzon claw back from a 1-0 hole.

Sorloth also had a double in their 5-0 clean sheet win over Buyuksehir Belediye Erzurumspor in the Turkish Cup. He has been very confident for the team this season and has surpassed Oscar Cardozo as the team’s top-scoring foreign player.

‘I don’t have any number of goals in my mind. I don’t like talking about it very much. What matters is that the team wins’, he said of being the league’s leader in goals.

He was silenced in the team’s win over Genclerbirligi. He was sent off in the 92nd minute with a red card after a short scuffle with Fabricio Baiano.

Anthony Nwakaeme scored in the 83rd minute to extend the team’s lead to 2-0, and he did not fail to impress Trabzon head coach Huseyin Cimsir. The team’s win puts them within one point with league leaders Sivasspor, who has been struggling as of late.

John Obi Mikel came up with an impressive night after playing solid defence at the Eryaman Stadium. Mikel was racially abused in their win over Fenerbahce after playing for a full 90 minutes in the win.

The team has issued a statement following the racist remarks that the midfielder has received after winning last week.

‘Racism is a refuge for helpless and ignorant people. Our player, (John) Obi Mikel, condemns the racist insults after the Fenerbahce match. We present to the public that we have filed a criminal complaint against the offenders’, said Trabzon on Twitter right after the match.

Trabzon is set for a showdown with Sivasspor this weekend, and a win would definitely vault them up into the top spot of the Super Lig table.
