He is an absolute inspiration to many youngsters these days, and he literally changed the way people consume content.

Who is Jawed Karim?

Jawin Karim is an American software engineer and one of the co-founders of YouTube. He was also the one who posted the first-ever video on the YouTube platform by the video titled “Me at the Zoo.”

The video was uploaded on 23rd April 2005, and since then, the single video alone has received over 307 million lifetime views.

The video was merely 19 seconds long, but it was the first seed of the biggest-ever video-sharing platform, YouTube.

YouTube was later sold to Google for a whopping $1.65 billion just one year after its inception. Since then, Jawed has been running an investment firm, Y Ventures. The company primarily focuses on the consumer internet space and mostly on first-time founders or students.

Apart from that, there isn’t any proper evidence of what he is doing currently. He mostly keeps himself under the roof and out of reach of media houses.

Early Life And Education

Jawed Karim was born on 18th October 1979 to a Bangladeshi family, but his mother was a German citizen.

Jawed initially grew up in West Germany but later moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1992 due to the fear of xenophobia.

He completed his high schooling at Saint Paul Central High School in 1997 and later attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for higher studies.

However, during his studies, he left the university to join PayPal as an early-stage employee, where he met two of the other co-founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.

The best thing is he didn’t drop out of the university and continued his studies along with work. Later on, he also earned a master’s degree in computer science from Stanford University.

Personal Life

While Karim tends to keep a low profile, it’s known that he values his privacy.

Despite his significant contributions to the tech industry, he prefers to stay out of the spotlight, focusing instead on his work and personal interests.

According to news publications, he has not yet married and has no children, although we’re still not sure about that.
