Early Life & Education

Anthony Ramos was born on November 1, 1991, in New York, Brooklyn, to Puerto Rican parents. Despite being raised by a single mother in public housing, he was determined to pursue his dreams of becoming an entertainer. Growing up, he attended Music & Art High School, where he discovered his passion for performing arts. After graduating from LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan, he took the next step towards achieving his goals by being admitted to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, where he earned his degree in theater performance.

Acting Career

Anthony Ramos didn’t take long to make a name for himself once he graduated from AMDA in 2014. His big break came when he received the role of John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical “Hamilton” just two years later.

Ramos started as a background dancer for various music videos before getting cast in the Off-Broadway production of Hamilton as both John Laurens/Philip Hamilton and George Washington. This breakthrough role opened many doors for him, including roles on Broadway like Usnavi de la Vega from In The Heights and the lead role of Joe Pitt from Angels In America.

This role earned him numerous awards, including two Tony Awards nominations, several Drama Desk Award nominations, and the Fred Astaire Award for Best Male Dancer on Broadway in 2008! He has since appeared in many movies, such as Godzilla: King of The Monsters (2019), A Star Is Born (2018), She’s Gotta Have It (2017) and White Girl Problems (2016). In addition to acting, Ramos is also an accomplished singer/songwriter with two albums under his belt; “The Freedom EP” (2015) and “Peaceful Revolution” (2020).

He also appeared on television shows such as Rise; She’s Gotta Have It, All Rise, and more recently, Godzilla vs Kong. He even released an album titled “The Freedom EP”, which dropped on June 7 2019! His latest project is playing the character Benny Rodriguez Jr., opposite Anthony Chavez Jr., in Warner Brothers’ feature film adaptation of In The Heights directed by John M Chu.
